Find Your Meaning

Hello Sagittarius. It’s taken me a minute to fire up and find the words to write this love letter. There’s been a lot of internal processing and pondering so far this season ~ rising out of the murky waters of Scorpio and making sense of the life I find myself in. The world we’re all living in. How can I contribute? What am I capable of energetically at this time of my life? How did I get here? Who am I now? Where can I find lightness? How do I go forward? What does it all mean?

Very appropriate questions for this particular Sagittarius season.

I don’t think making meaning of our place in the world ~ or in our very own life ~ is navel gazing or time wasting. What we believe is everything. And how we live is our truth. Our answers may not always be right but if we never contemplate our position, how can we know if we’re on the right path and living up to our true state? Our reason for being? The learning we’re here to receive for this lifetime? I know I’m not alone in considering these questions.

We are all meaning makers. It’s how we make sense of our reality. A reality that wants results yesterday. Determined by a culture that’s fast-paced, expects logic and clean lines and a trajectory that charts up, up and up. Many of us who are creative and sensitive to this way of living don’t chart up and up. We meander, we walk a different walk. Our paths don’t look very linear, even if we want them to.

‘Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing ~ and keeping the unknown always beyond you.’

Search for Your Truth

Sagittarius is like us. It’s hot and in a hurry and wants to propel itself ahead but it’s a bit insecure. You see, it’s the first of the transpersonal signs (Sag, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces), forming the bridge between the social and the societal signs. It needs to properly find itself and understand where it’s going before it can truly land on its feet. Sag actually doesn’t want to be grounded at all. You know Sagittarius’ symbolic arrow? If Sag had its way it would use that arrow to shoot itself into the sky, up into the realm of the wise and all-knowing spirit of Pisces, bypassing Capricorn and Aquarius completely. But that arrow has a horizontal bar across it, holding Sag back and keeping it firmly on the earth.

This can drive Sagittarius nuts but, fortunately, Sag is philosophical and if it can make meaning from being grounded, it will cope better than others. Sagittarius shapes its reality by searching for symbolic meaning. It sees signs everywhere that it casts into a vision and becomes a belief system to live by. It’s here to create a set of truths to set us free.

As you know, truth is very subjective. Whose truth is the truth? My truth may be vastly different to yours. Every day we create stories based on the truths we tell ourselves. And everyday we come up against truths we don’t like or believe in. How do you respond to those kinds of truths? The kind of truth that challenges your way of being?

‘The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.’

Gloria Steinem

We have room for all kinds of truth. Helpful truths, uncomfortable truths. Truths of our own that we abandon because we’ve outgrown them.

Have you ever created a personal mythology that held you back and hemmed you in? Sagittarius hates to feel there’s no way out. There must always be an escape hatch available offering a sense of spaciousness and freedom. It doesn’t want to sit on its truth but on the shadowy flipside, if Sag finds a truth that really resonates and it’s not coming from its highest expression, its usual flexy nature can become very fixed and you might find that truth forced down your throat…

It’s always wise to recognise when any truth turns fanatical or into dogma. When we find what we believe to be true and we stay with it, far beyond its effectiveness or use by date. I’m sure you’ve come across fresh knowledge at some point that has freed you of a limiting belief. A truth bomb that really did set you free.

So what is your truth, and are you willing to own it? Have you ever abandoned your truth in the presence of another? I mean, who hasn’t? I slip but I slip less. This is why getting older is really so cool. You grow into yourself and out of abandoning yourself. You still care ~ a lot ~ but you care much more about what is true for you.

A Very Retrograde Sag Season

This is a Sagittarius season with a twist. A deeply reflective Sag season. A centaur by design ~ top half human, bottom half horse ~ Sag’s natural state is a combination of earthy behaviour and fiery feelings, manifesting in a momentous amount of propulsive energy. Rein it in and you know about it.

With Mercury, Mars and Jupiter (Sagittarius’ ruling planet) all retrograde, Sag knows all about it.

To our naked eye, retrograde planets appear to be moving backward. They’re not really, but it’s how we perceive it so we believe it.

When a planet is retrograde the function of its energy isn’t as accessible as usual. It’s kind of repressed, turning inward and shying away. We instinctively sense something is off and feel a pull to internalise that planet’s energy. To conserve it for sure but also so we can reflect on our relationship with it.

Mindful Transitions

Whenever Mercury is retrograde our thinking, communication and processing function alters. Our thoughts don’t fire up and find their way out of our mouths, or onto paper or the screen, in their usual way. Our bandwidth reduces. It’s almost as though your brain ~ along with the collective’s brain ~ goes silent for a few weeks for an internal adjustment. Plans can be affected, technology glitches. Our communication doesn’t entirely shut down but it slows down, right down. You need this. It gives your brain a break. We’re not meant to be ‘on’ all the time, firing from all synapses like automatons.

From 26 November Mercury has been backtracking through Sagittarius. By the time you read this Mercury will be repositioning (it properly faces forward on 17 December). Think of these last three weeks as a timeout to consider whether your thinking has taken you down the right paths.

Mercury is very supportive of transitions. It won’t hold it against you if you’re ready to shift some inner truths, even if it means doing a 180° flip. What Mercury has wanted you to do is reorient your focus, quieten your thinking process and stop firing missiles in your mind. To check you have all the details before you rush into a reaction, or a rabbit hole. Simply not know for a while. Be patient and open to broadening your perspective. By allowing for spaciousness, fresh knowledge has room to land.

Mars in Your Face

Action-oriented Mars has been retrograde in Leo since 6 December 2024.* If you haven’t been feeling very ra ra recently, this might explain it. There’s still plenty to rise and shine for but there’s only only so much energy to go around.

We want our expression to be bold when Mars is in Leo. To have the guts to front up, show up and reveal who we are. But not now while it’s retrograde, not overtly anyway. Instead we’re more aware of ourselves. If the focus turns to us, we might be self-conscious and feel like we’re showboating. We mightn’t have the energy for extravagant displays of creativity. Or maybe we’re just reconsidering how to reignite our passions. How we can conserve our creativity for what counts.

Choose smaller experiences that don’t diminish your energy. Less will feel like a whole lot more.

Mars still needs something to do so utilise it by keeping yourself occupied with the simplest, most straightforward and compelling tasks that feel good for you. It’s not the time to shove strong impulses down but could you try just being and not doing so much?

If you don’t receive the response you want from the effort you’re putting in, how are you handling it? What’s your relationship to recognition? Do you need instant feedback and applause? We all want handclaps but can you find pleasure from your creations even if they don’t get lots of traction?

This isn’t the time to get hung up on tracking our talents. The results won’t show yet. Instead let’s focus on propelling ourselves productively, being fuelled by the warmth and inspiration of each other, and generating the motivation to feed all of our fires.

* On 7 January Mars will retreat into Cancer until 24 February 2025, when it will turn direct.

Map New Pathways

Jupiter boosts morals and as Sagittarius’ ruling planet it injects this sign with life-sustaining hope, faith and resilience. This explains why Sag is so innately optimistic and exuberant.

Everything Jupiter touches expands and grows (both positively and negatively). In Gemini, Jupiter’s presence increases our curiosity. We want to know everything and communicate it to anyone who’ll listen. We’re inspired and lit up, sharing our knowledge in the hope it lifts spirits and touches the people who’ll benefit from it most.

With Jupiter retrograding through Gemini, this effervescent curiosity turns inward and our eyes are on us. We fact check ourselves, exploring the validity of our message. Our beliefs might feel narrow, our stories no longer ringing true. Spirits might be flagging, stuck in loopy, looping thoughts.

How do we have hope that we’ll find our truth if we feel blinkered from it?

Newsflash. Your mind is resilient and your brain is very elastic. Jupiter in Gemini wants to collaborate with you to loosen up your thinking.

I recently came across information that’s been very freeing for me. A wise and loving friend recommended Dr Linnea Passaler’s book Heal Your Nervous System. In her book Dr Passaler describes two types of thinking ~ responding from a ‘dog’s mind’ and from a ‘lion’s mind’.

A dog thinks in the present moment. When it’s presented with a bone, it just wants the bone. Wave it and the dog will chase after it because it can’t see anything past the bone. All it wants is the immediate satisfaction of chomping on that juicy bone. Give a dog a bone and you control its reality.

A lion thinks long term. It sees the bone and knows there’s more to the story. Wave a bone and the lion will watch it, waiting for the opportunity to consume a larger meal (maybe you?), biding its time for a more complete result.

So, with this line of thinking, when we’re confronted with a thought of our own like ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘It’s all hopeless’ we can choose to respond from a dog’s mind and chase after that thought, becoming wrapped in rumination. Or we can take a breath, create some distance and think like a lion, looking long range and taking in a larger reality. This gives us time to fact check ourselves and follow the true threads, curious about where they’ll take us.

There’s always more to the stories we tell ourselves. Always more knowledge to explore.

‘Such knowing simplicity in this complex world takes great intelligence.’

Expand Your Horizon

Sagittarius is the seeker. Wherever Sag lives in your birth chart you want to allow space for your psyche to search. Plenty of open space to indulge and stretch your mind and develop.

Such a hot, forward-moving energy, Sag struggles against feeling withheld. Its fire is of the spirit and the mind, so don’t even think about boring it with mundane details. It wants the big picture, the huge outlook.

We’re here for the long game. The little blips we encounter that put us off our game are just that, blips. Not a reflection of you, your abilities, your potential or your outcome.

Look big and look large. Search for the horizon, beyond what you know. That’s where things get interesting. The middle ground is boring, and you most certainly are not boring.

New experiences are available for all of us, at every stage of our existence. Life is a never-ending mission to explore and evolve, understand each other better and know more. We have capacity for so much more.

Sag wants to link us back to our oneness. We’re all so different and just as my truth isn’t yours, your experience isn’t mine. We are not the same but we can learn from each other. There is so much we don’t know about each other. I want to know about you! People are fascinating and I hope we can open up more with each other. Tell our stories and share our experiences. This is how we understand. How we’re able to coexist. How we can walk side by side. Love, laugh and live together.

Your Gemini Full Moon

This is the Full Moon to enliven your thinking. To take a deep inhale and breathe in the fact there’s so much life beyond you, knowledge you’re yet to understand. A universe so intriguing, waiting for you to find it.

But details aren’t available yet. With perfect cosmic planning exactly 12 hours after the Full Moon peaks at 8.01pm AEDT, Mercury will reposition and face forward. There’s still time to be in the not knowing. Still time to lose yourself in the details of what could be.

With the Sun in Sagittarius fully fronting the Gemini Moon, we’re an open book. Open to whatever comes up. Especially as both the Sun and Moon are plugging directly into Neptune in Pisces, clouded in its vapour and soaking up its mystic, ethereal nature.

Feel into the mystery that’s surfacing on this Full Moon, the awe and wonder of possibility and connection to spirit. Rest your face up against that idea. Big sigh… The thought bubble you’ve been encased in is slowly dissolving, the discomfort of too much information ~ or not enough ~ is dissipating.

Take in all your reflections, let your mind wander down their paths. What have you learnt? What’s yet to fully penetrate and absorb? If inspiration strikes, write it out, journal your thoughts, taking care to notice how your ideas feel as they land in your body. Do they pique your curiosity? Excite you and elevate you? Or do they create apprehension, feeling you’re unable to follow them through?

The brilliance of Sagittarius is its willingness to explore beyond what it knows. The magic of Gemini is knowing to keep its eyes open for new content to process and change its mind. There’s always another perspective to explore, connect with and share out there.

Allow this Full Moon to fully refresh and refocus you. To expand your perception and give you hope for increased understanding. For more conversation, illumination and sharing with the people who inspire you and add meaning to your life.

Love,

Kristin xxx
