Your New Year Capricorn New Moon
Hello,
The cosmos has come through with a brilliantly timed and aligned star map to usher in the New Year that feels too significant and special not to share with you.
I’m not super superstitious about making resolutions and keeping them, but I love astrological patterns and timings and a New Moon coinciding with a New Year is one I think you’ll want to know about.
Because this isn’t just any year ~ 2025 marks the absolute beginning of what I believe will go down as a brand new era. A major energetic reset is unfolding as five powerful planets shift into new zodiac signs. Pluto has only just entered Aquarius after 16 years in Capricorn. Neptune will make its first entrance in Aries after 15 years in Pisces and Uranus will make its way to Gemini after seven years in Taurus ~ these three outer planets move so slowly because they shape and define our collective experience and need time to properly affect us and create entire generations. Then we have Jupiter transitioning into Cancer and Saturn shifting into Aries. These two planets move more quickly but still hugely affect our personal programming and our growth and structural patterns. (I will unpack all of this as these movements unfold in real time.)
I haven’t seen so many cyclic switches on this scale before. This change will seismically shift us personally and collectively, profoundly affecting the world as we know it. It’s a powerful and massive turning point but it’s ultimately very hopeful. Because change is progressive and to survive we need to be open to alteration and transformation or we stagnate and get stuck. The old just get old without contributing to what can be sustained, improved upon and made better. A whole lot better.
Preparing for the New
Capricorn’s planetary ruler, Saturn, at its best loves preparation and deeply respects your long-term thinking and forward planning. But don’t feel you have to be held to anything to usher in this New Year. Really, it’s just about responding and paying attention to what comes up for you at this time.
Capricorn’s New Moon will be exact at 9.26am AEDT on 31 December, and 2.26pm Pacific Time and 10.26pm GMT on 30 December. New Moon energy is felt for around three days so don’t stress if you’re slow to read this. This New Moon energy will still be with you.
I recently learnt about an early origin of the word ‘resolution’ ~ the old French resolucioun, which means to loosen, break up and release. So we can dissolve what we have resolved ourselves to. Or resolve to release what we’ve been hanging onto that hasn’t helped us. This idea works perfectly with this New Year, New Moon and you might want to use it as your starting point.
What are you ready to release?
Fear is a big one of mine and so is feeling like I need to prove myself to be worthwhile. Not the most positive Capricorn themes but these ones have influenced me since forever. I have a Capricorn Ascendant so I was literally born into its energy and my formative years fed into this. If you have a lot of Capricorn running in your chart, you might relate.
So yeah, commit to release, release, release whatever attitudes, traits or behaviours don’t serve you and prevent you from fully realising who you are and what you want to make real.
Now, just because everyone has clocked that it’s the end of the year and a new one is beginning doesn’t mean that our motivation and momentum magically align at once. Good ideas and intentions take time to develop (Saturn also rules time!). Mars, the planet of action, is still retrograde and will be until 24 February, and even then the astrological new year doesn’t begin until the Sun shifts into Aries on 21 March. So you have plenty of sweet time to respond to and map out your visions. Personally, the Sun’s switch into Aries is when I find myself properly firing up for the year.
Create Your Reality
Capricorn is a major goal setter. An architect of dreams. Our time in Sagittarius gave us the visionary dreams. Now Capricorn begins to design what can be very fruitful and useful for us.
Fortunately, this New Moon sees Mercury in Sagittarius opposite Jupiter in Gemini, giving us the space we need for contemplation and adding a wonderful feeling of expansion to our thinking process. Absolutely think outside the box but both Mercury and Jupiter point to Saturn in Pisces, which wraps its arms around us and asks that we come close and face ourselves. Capricorn is hugely creative and will do everything in its power to make our aspirations happen. But can we make the fanciful exist? Are your dreams actually attainable? Can you work with them? If yes, great. If no, do you need training, guiding, mentoring? Be honest with yourself. There’s no hiding here and no shame in asking for help.
Where does your determination want to drive you?
This Capricorn Sun and Moon combination will nourish your ambitions but it also requires a level of reality and accountability from you. Do you feel you can commit to taking manageable and actionable steps that align with your values and goals and will bring you closer to your ultimate reason? The real reason that drives you and challenges you to climb to the top of your personal mountain?
Pace Yourself
We’re breathing new life here. Injecting future possibilities with the earthy, sensual, tangible and practical. This feels very possible and beautiful but fresh challenges can create a lot of unknowns. This New Moon could also feel immense and intense.
Be patient with yourself and allow plenty of time to ponder your path like Capricorn’s symbol, the nanny goat. She sits very still on her pile of rocks, actually looking like she’s not moving or doing anything. Then all of a sudden she’s off. She mapped out her goals and confidently knows exactly where she’s going, leaving us behind.
The Leo Mars in this New Moon chart might be retrograde but its flowing perfectly with the Aries North Node (soon to shift into Pisces). This gives me great confidence that we’ll feel capable of checking with our compass and prioritising our personal needs and making them known. And if we’re not checking in with ourselves, we can always course correct.
Restful breaks will be helpful. They’ll give us space for recalibration and recovery and refill our reserves. How will you support yourself and resource yourself in 2025? It’s really worth thinking about. Challenge gives us an opportunity to grow and in 2025 we can aim for healthy responses to stress. It doesn’t have to debilitate us ~ as long as we remember to discharge it from our body and don’t let it deplete us, stress can spur us on and be an excellent motivator.
We’re standing on the precipice of something very new and we don’t know where we’re heading. If we can calm our desire for control, the right way will reveal itself. Above all, you don’t need to prove yourself or your path to anyone ~ I’ll be reminding myself of this all year! You are always your own authority, your own personal mountain guide. For this year and all of your years.
Never forget it.
Thank you
Thank you for reading my love letters in 2024. It’s been such a pleasure writing for you. Your kind responses have been so lovely to receive.
At the beginning of 2024 I asked for a year of closer connection. To open my arms to whatever comes, remaining aware and present. To do good work, quietly. Offering my best service and my best self. To keep learning, undoing, unravelling and evolving. Always growing.
I received that year, and more, much more. So much learning…
I wish the same for you in 2025. Or whatever kind of year you choose.
Happy New Year!
Love,
Kristin xxx
